Mooring Installations & Inspections

Mooring Installation, Inspection and Maintenance

While other operators claim to provide mooring services, Flag Alpha truly do specialize in mooring installations, inspections and maintenance. Having provided this service now for the past 20 years the experience and expertise is reflected in the quality of our work and the longevity of the moorings.

In 2005, Flag Alpha Commercial Divers (formally Wolf Rock) designed, installed and then provided ongoing maintenance on the moorings for the ex HMAS Brisbane off Mooloolaba. Since then, we have gone on to concentrate our efforts in the area of moorings and now provide an annual inspection service for moorings owned by Queensland Transport, Maritime Safety Queensland and individually owned moorings authorized by Maritime Safety Qld.

Modern day moorings have become a little more sophisticated and with the increasing number of vessels that are being moored privately it is crucial you’re your mooring is suitable for the environment it is in and is well maintained. It is not a case of one size fits all and each installation is designed specifically to suit the requirements of your vessel and the mooring site and it is extremely important to use the right components. To this end, all components used by Flag Alpha are best quality available for sea water and tested to the required Australian Standards. Mooring buoys supplied are as per recommendations by Maritime Safety Queensland.

Ongoing inspections and maintenance are just as important and in fact a requirement by Maritime Safety Queensland. It is also now required by some insurance companies. Apart from that, just for your own peace of mind moorings should be inspected on an annual basis. This ensures components are not wearing prematurely, working correctly and that any debris has not become entangled in your mooring line causing damage.

Each inspection is conducted by qualified ADAS divers who specialise in this area. A written and photographic report is supplied with each inspection with recommendations if wear falls below the accepted level. The quality of photography is relevant to water clarity.

Private moorings in Queensland are managed by Maritime Safety Queensland and you need authorization before installation of a mooring. Information and contact details can be found at this website address – http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Waterways/Buoy-moorings

Chandlery & Splicing

Splicing services and chandlery go hand in hand with moorings and to this end Flag Alpha Commercial Divers hold in stock a large range of components commonly used in marine applications. This includes 8 platt and 3 strand ropes, chain, shackles, swivels, surface buoys and other assorted items.

All splicing is done in house using both 8 platt and 3 strand ropes to create bridles and mooring lines designed to your specifications.
